Role Overview
The emphasis for this position is in engineering, design, analysis, and construction details for nuclear power plants. The work required includes technical design development for design change packages (at operating nuclear plants) involving changes to or additions of system designs and /or review for impact on existing system designs and installations due to design change package development for other commodities. Work locations in the Minneapolis, MN area. All engineering lead personnel assigned to Monticello nuclear power plant site office are required to take the clients training program, which consists of a few weeks of instructor-led training course on various aspects of power plant systems and operation.
Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:
Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
Devises new approaches to solving problems.
Provides technical direction and assigns work to engineers, designers, and drafters who assist on specific assignments.
Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group.
Performs work that involves conventional engineering practices, but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2D and 3D computer aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools.
Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for equipment.
Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations.
Prepares letters to vendors and clients.
Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendations.
Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.
Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Basic Qualifications
Candidate must have a BS or MS in Civil Engineering.
Candidate must currently hold US Professional Engineering (PE) license in Civil Engineering.
Minimum 10 years experience of nuclear systems is preferred.
Demonstrated good communication skills and writing skills a must.
Must be able to provide clear explanations of design attributes and requirements to client and Bechtel home office.
Must be able to interact professionally with client.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent work requiring judgment in the application of engineering techniques required.
Must have a working knowledge of nuclear regulations including 10CFR50, Regulatory Guides and Standard Review Plans.
Must have familiarity with estimating job hours for engineering tasks related with nuclear plant system design.
Candidate must be proficient in MathCad, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must be able to use relevant engineering computer applications in addition to the standard Microsoft Office Suite.
Candidate must have right to work and remain in the United States, candidate must be capable of obtaining access to nuclear power plants.
Preferred Qualifications
Nuclear power plant design experience preferred.
Jobsite/construction, Site development, Infrastructure and Rigging experience preferred.
