POSITION TITLE: Welder/Mechanic I, II, and III LOCATION: CNS Posting Dates: 06/16/2014 to 06/30/2014 SALARY INFORMATION: Non Exempt/ Grade 9, 11, or 12 Depending on Experience BUSINESS UNIT/DEPT.: Nuclear Energy/Maintenance Department POSITION REPORTS TO: Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor POSITION SUMMARY: Accomplish welding activities on both non-safety and safety-related components by performance of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and planned and unplanned corrective maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation of Cooper Nuclear Station. Be available when required to ensure an adequate pool of manpower to correct plant problems. PRIMARY DUTY OF POSITION: Mechanic/Welder position will primarily be responsible for preparing and welding components/equipment essential to maintaining plant equipment, and other miscellaneous items to support the safe and reliable operation of CNS. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: Job functions can be categorized as essential for six primary reasons: A. The position exists to perform this function. B. There are a limited number of employees available to perform this function. C. Function requires specialized skills/training. D. Past incumbents have performed this function. E. Incumbents in similar jobs perform this function. F. The consequences of not performing this function are significant. Ensure efficient and reliable operation of station equipment through performance of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting activities on non-safety and safety-related plant equipment. Perform investigation of failures/deficiencies on plant equipment with Engineering Department, Shop Supervisor and vendor in order to correct problems and improve reliability of plant equipment. Perform Quality Control (QC) activities on work performed at the station as required by ANSI 45.2.6-1978 to attain or maintain the physical aspects of quality within predetermined limits or requirements. Participate in the Maintenance Training Program as required to maintain qualifications and to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to perform Mechanic duties. Reason Essential A, B, C, D, E, F E. Continually improve the quality of mechanical maintenance/welding procedures through the established feedback and revision processes. Reason Essential D, E, F F. Support Cooper Nuclear Station's Emergency Response Organization (ERO) through qualification to fill Maintenance Operational Support Center (OSC) or other ERO positions required (dependent on physical qualifications). Reason Essential D, E, F G. Perform pipe prepping and weld fit-up Reason Essential A, B, C, D NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: A. Incumbent is accountable for miscellaneous other responsibilities as assigned or required. B. Incumbent may participate on Safety Committee. C. Incumbent may participate on Employee Committee. DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY: Matters pertaining to personal safety. Decisions necessary to complete assigned tasks that are not dictated by procedures or instructions (i.e., "skill of the craft"). Incumbent will be relied upon to make recommendations pertaining to areas of advanced knowledge. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education and Training: CANDIDATE SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION MUST PASS A MASS (POWER PLANT MAINTENANCE POSITIONS SELECTION SYSTEM) TEST. Welder/Mechanic I: Two-year Associates degree in Welding discipline or related field or equivalent military training and 2 years experience in a nuclear plant as a welder and/or related trade. OR High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 6 years mechanical experience in an industrial setting and successful completion of Welder/Mechanic Level II training program at Cooper Nuclear Station; or successful completion of a Welder apprentice program. Internal Promotion requires successful completion of assigned Welder/Mechanic Level I training and demonstrated performance of duties as Welder/Mechanic II at Cooper Nuclear Station. External hires must complete level I qualification within one year of hire. Must be qualified to ANSI N18.1-1971 requirements. (Documentation of qualification is a condition of employment.) Welder/Mechanic II: Two-year Associates Degree in Welder discipline or related field or equivalent military training and 1 year experience as a machinist and/or related trade. OR High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 5 years Welder experience in an industrial setting or successful completion of a welder apprentice program. Internal Promotion requires successful completion of assigned Welder/Mechanic Level II training and demonstrated performance of duties as Welder/Mechanic III at Cooper Nuclear Station. External hires must complete level II qualification within one year of hire. Must be qualified to ANSI N18.1-1971 requirements. (Documentation of qualification is a condition of employment.) Welder/Mechanic III: Two-year Associates Degree in Welder discipline or related field, or equivalent military training OR High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 4 years of experience as a Welder in an industrial setting; or successful completion of a Welder apprentice program Must be qualified to ANSI N18.1-1971 requirements. (Documentation of qualification is a condition of employment.) B. Licenses and/or Certifications Required: None C. Prior Related Experience: Reference Section A and previous related experience as follows: Types of Welding - SMAW and GTAW, (Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel and GTAW Aluminum), brazing and soldering. Also, oxygen-acetylene both, manual and track torch. Pipe welding experience preferred.
