Job Description

The candidate provides leadership to the Progress Energy Nuclear Fleet to enhance reliability and performance of high-impact mechanical systems. As a fleet mechanical system engineer in the corporate office, the candidate is responsible for providing technical expertise and oversight of activities at 5 nuclear units to achieve high levels of equipment reliability. The scope of the support includes leadership for performance monitoring, long range improvement plans, equipment reliability program improvements, and system health oversight at all nuclear units. The individual will work with site engineers to establish effective condition monitoring to ensure any degraded performance is identified and resolved prior to failure. The system engineer will be considered the technical expert on mechanical systems, serving as an in-house consultant to the plant staff. In addition, the fleet system engineer will lead or participate in site system health assessments and develop guidance for site system engineers.

The candidate should have a minimum of ten years industry experience in the area of system engineering. The office location is Progress Energy corporate headquarters in Raleigh. The candidate is expected to travel approximately 25% to 40% of the time and will be expected to provide on-site support for emergent problems at the nuclear stations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering (not engineering technology program) from an ABET accredited program or a current PE license is required. An international engineering degree will be considered. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree. 7-10 years engineering experience required.
