Job Description
Requirements: Ability to qualify as a leadership member of the Emergency Response Organization to include SCBA use and live within the emergency response area. Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Willing to accept temporary work assignments at other Progress Energy Carolinas or Progress Energy Florida nuclear facilities. Candidate must obtain and maintain unescorted plant access.
Duties include PWR/BWR radiation protection, health physics surveillance, health physics oversight for in plant work activities, industrial hygiene program monitoring, and emergency response activities both on-site and off-site. Duties will also include policy planning, budgeting and decision-making related to the programmatic aspects of the Radiation Protection program as a whole. Specific focus areas will include being the supervisor and management representative for programs such as dosimetry, respiratory protection, instrumentation, ALARA, field operations, confined space monitoring, and radioactive waste shipping and receiving. Progress Energy's mission is to provide a safe, secure working environment for personnel in the plants.
The selected candidate will be required to obtain U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access and will participate in the company's Fitness-for-Duty Program. Candidates may also be required to maintain qualifications and on-call responsibilities in support of the plant Emergency Response Organization. In order to obtain unescorted access, the selected candidate will be required to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). Information from this form will be used to conduct an extensive background investigation as required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations. It is unlikely you will be granted access if (1) you have had a positive drug or alcohol test within the past five years, (2) you have used or possessed drugs in the past five years, (3) you have a felony conviction in the past five years, (4) you have recent misdemeanor convictions, (5) you falsify or omit information or fail to fully cooperate during the investigation process. This list is not inclusive.
Desired: Strong consideration given for Certified Health Physicist (CHP). Supervisory experience to enable inclusion in rotating on-call functions. Completion of INPO developmental course for RP/Chem Supervisors. Strong Self-Evaluation Program fundamentals. BS degree in Health Physics or related science preferred.
Qualifications
Five years commercial nuclear power plant experience.
