Senior level Technical
Specialist position on Mechanical Staff supporting all Power projects worldwide
with regard to cooling towers and air cooled condensers (ACC) and related
equipment/systems.
Duties include:
Prepare equipment specifications and material requisitions for purchase
(including conceptual design/sizing), review and technically evaluate supplier
bids for award, and review supplier documents for compliance.
Work closely with various Project teams during all phases of an order,
including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and
commissioning.
Witness test and inspection activities at supplier facilities.
Participate in development of standardized tools used in the
bid, evaluate, and award process (standard technical specifications, technical
bid forms, technical bid evaluations, etc).
Lead and/or participate in supplier process improvement dialogue.
Develop and capture, in conjunction with the suppliers as required, cost saving
ideas.
Perform technical reviews of new and emerging technologies in the marketplace.
Troubleshoot construction, startup, and operational problems, and interface
with the client or manufacturer to modify the design or operational practice,
as appropriate, to resolve those problems.
Explain designs to outside agencies and clients.
Travel may be required (domestic or international, business trip or short/long
term assignment), and may be up to 20% of time.
Start date is flexible.
Basic Qualifications:
At least 15 years engineering experience in duties/responsibilities described
above.
BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical
Engineering Technology).
PE License.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Currently possess the right to legally work and remain in the
United States
without visa sponsorship.
Capable of passing nuclear security screening requirements and able to obtain
un-escorted clearance to a nuclear power plant.
Physically capable to work around and on large machines and power equipment,
including the ability to climb and carry test equipment of up to 40 lbs.
Willing to travel world-wide on short notice.
Broad experience related to the design of cooling towers and air cooled
condensers, including conceptual design, equipment procurement, and equipment
troubleshooting. To include thermal design, material application, chemistry,
and treatment.
Excellent teamwork and supervisory skills as well as
capability for independent action as appropriate.
Ability to react to simultaneous but rapidly changing objectives.
Able to lead interaction with suppliers, clients, and other Bechtel
departments.
Experience with preparation of budgetary and final quantity and cost estimates.
Experience with cooling tower and ultimate heat sink software desired.
Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering fundamentals
for power plants.
Problem solving skills, both technical and personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 15 years engineering experience in duties/responsibilities described
above with an OEM.
MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical
Engineering Technology).
Understand quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
Active membership in industry associations (e.g., AMSE, CTI) and committee
participation.
Previous authorship of technical papers relevant to cooling systems of power
plants.
