POSITION: First Line Manager, Radiation Control
LOCATION: Tiverton, Ontario
THE COMPANY: Created in 2001 as Canadas first private nuclear generator, Bruce Power currently powers every fifth home, hospital and school in Ontario.
The Position: This position is responsible to ensure adherence to Radiation Protection Procedures and the Radiation Control Requirements, and give direction and guidance to department staff, operating personnel, construction staff and visitors.
General Accountabilities:
Supervise and administer the work of the Radiation Control Unit as part of the integrated planning process for Bruce Power.
Define radiation safety requirements applicable to present, planned or proposed work.
Recommend potential improvements to radiation control methods, equipment or facilities, based on internal and external operating experience, to minimize or eliminate hazards.
Review Radiation Protection Procedures, and originate, review and prepare detailed local procedures for radiation control.
Evaluate requirements and initiate purchase of equipment, instruments, and protective clothing, etc., used in radiation protection.
Perform duties of the Transport Coordinator (as per the Radiation Protection Requirements) for shipment of radioactive material.
Keep abreast of current trends and information on principles and practices of radiation protection control.
Investigate minor incidents and participate in investigations of major accidents to determine causes and factors involved.
Prepare reports on the state of radiological conditions at Bruce Power. Participate in ALARA review of planned work.
Review the Routine Survey program and design and supervise Quality Assurance surveys.
Education:
Requires Grade 12 education plus three years further concentrated study.
Requires a knowledge of the basic sciences and associated mathematics, including physics and chemistry, etc., in order to analyze results of tests and investigations in determining adherence to acceptable radiation limits from interpretations of regulations and instructions.
