| JOB SUMMARY:
This is a regular full time position in the Southern Nuclear (SNC) Nuclear Development, Technical Support - Engineering organization. Southern Nuclear has entered into an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract with a Westinghouse / Shaw Consortium for 2 AP1000 nuclear power plant units to be constructed as Units 3 and 4 of the Vogtle Electric Generating Station near Waynesboro, Georgia. As a member of the SNC nuclear development engineering team, the successful candidate will provide engineering oversight of the design and construction of the 2 new units.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Review designs of AP1000 standard plant structures including the Nuclear Island, Turbine Building, and Annex Building. Reviews for standard plant designs will be coordinated with other utilities that are also developing AP1000 projects.
Review designs for site-specific structures and features including building foundations, haul roads, storm drainage and flood protection, and security barriers. Work directly with the Consortium (Westinghouse and Shaw) to resolve site specific design issues.
Provide detailed reviews of AP1000 baseline design and subsequent design changes. This requires interface with AP1000 Licensing on design changes that impact the licensing process.
Support SNC efforts to manage the design development and change processes to maintain design standardization, control contract changes, and support schedules for design finalization.
Support the development of change packages for Vogtle Units 1 and 2 necessary to construct new Units 3 and 4. This support includes the identification of needed changes and overseeing/supporting the development of design and licensing change packages.
Provide support as needed on specific civil/structural design issues related to construction.
Supporting planning activities for future nuclear projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university, or Professional Engineer license, is required. (Engineering Technology will not be accepted)
Advanced degree or PE license desirable.
Background/Experience Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years of civil engineering experience is required.
Candidates with experience in nuclear plant engineering design or modifications, power plant design, or engineering field support of major construction projects are preferred.
Broad exposure to a variety of civil engineering areas (e.g., seismic analysis, foundation design, concrete structure design, steel structure design, and hydrology) is preferred.
Working knowledge of civil codes and standards (e.g., ACI 318, ACI 349, AISC N690, AISC 360, ASME B&PV Code Section III, etc) is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of PWR plant design/operation

Ability to gain unescorted access to Southern Nuclear's plants is required.
Travel to construction sites, vendor offices, manufacturing facilities and operating nuclear sites is required. International travel may be required.
This position may at some future date require relocation to a nuclear plant site to support construction, startup and/or operation.
